My Family and the Zombies - Part Two - No Choices

Friday, 11 March 2011, 0815

You begin to follow your sister through the crowd, but you can feel fear growing in the crowd as the groans, screams and gunfire move closer. The crowd surges forward in fear, and suddenly you have lost sight of your sister. You are still leaning on Cindy for support as you surge forward, your arm wrapped around her back. She reaches down and grabs your injured arm instead, pulling you along behind her. It hurts, but you steel yourself against the pain as the two of you begin to run as part of the crowd. The weight of the shotgun is heavy on your right arm as you lug it along through the crowd; you wish the shotgun had a sling so that it was easier to run while carrying it.

You can hear screams and groaning from behind you in the distance as you surge forward. You look over at Cindy, whose eyes are filled with terror and whose grip is tight on the shotgun she carries. "What do we do?" she yells at you over the sound of the crowd.

"We need to keep running. We can't wait for anyone," you tell Cindy. She looks at you and nods, fear still in her eyes.

The two of you continue to run across the bridge, but you are not as fast as you should be because of the blood you have lost. You look down at the bandage around your arm and there is blood seeping out from it.

You see people begin to fall in the crowd, not because they have been taken down by zombies, but because the pressure of the crowd is too great for them. The crowd is a seething, shouting mass as it filters through the stopped cars.

You look over your shoulder and you see a mass of people rushing forward on the bridge. You move with Cindy to the left, away from the outgoing traffic. There is no traffic coming back into the city. As Cindy pulls you forward someone suddenly grabs at Cindy's arm.

You look to see the face of a man who looks half-crazed grabbing at her as you all run forward. She screams.

You swing the shotgun up, letting go of Cindy with your injured arm in the process, and bring the shotgun to your shoulder. The man looks at you and begins to shout, "No!", but you have already pulled the trigger. His chest explodes as the shotgun slug rips through him and comes out the other side. You pump the shotgun and then grab back on to Cindy.

The crowd is suddenly energized with fear from the shooting, and everyone is screaming all around you. Fighting begins to break out as the two of you run forward again.

You are huffing and puffing as you run, with Cindy pulling you, encouraging you to go faster. You see the furthest forward car stopped on the bridge deck near you. It is empty but it is still running, but it is surrounded by people.
You decide to ignore the opportunity with the car and keep running for the end of the bridge. You hear the groans and screams coming closer as the mass of people moves forward. You are stumbling as you run forward, and Cindy is pulling hard on your arm, trying to make you move faster.

You look to your left and see someone on the ground, a zombie gnawing at the back of their neck. Suddenly they are in and among the crowd. You look to your right and see another person go down, a zombie clawing at their back.

The crowd is frantic now, scrambling against each other as they surge forward, people dropping to the ground around them.

As you reach the end of the bridge you see two zombies battling with a group of people. You think you catch sight of your sister running away down the highway, but you are not sure.
You run towards the people who are fighting the two zombies at the edge of the bridge deck. You raise your shotgun to your shoulder and fire, hitting a zombie in the stomach with a slug. It drops to the ground and begins flailing, trying to grab at the people around it.

The second zombie has a young woman on her back and is snapping at her face, trying to bite her. She is trying to fight the zombie off and is screaming. You hear a boom to your left, and the zombie's disappears. You look over to see Cindy standing there with a smile on her face.

The girl stands up, screaming. She looks to be about your age and Cindy's age.

You yell to the girl, "Come with us," as she shakes the brain matter off her face. She looks at you in amazement, but Cindy grabs her hand and she pulls you along. There is shooting rippling all along the bridge as people fight the zombies. If you weren't in Canada and people had more guns you could be more successful.

The three of you begin running along the highway. You are not as fast as everyone else, but you trudge forward, determined. There are zombies in and among the crowd to your rear, and you also hear some screams up ahead.

As you charge forward you come across a zombie, a female, feasting on a woman's stomach. The woman is screaming; she hasn't turned yet. You point your shotgun at the zombie and blast it in the head. You look at the woman, who is lying there, writhing in pain.

You consider what to do, but before you have made a decision Cindy pulls out her handgun and points it at the woman's face. The woman looks up at her with pleading eyes, and Cindy pulls the trigger.

Within a few minutes you arrive at the 152nd Street onramp. There are vehicles speeding onto the highway. None of them are stopping to pick up anyone on foot. You see a couple of dead bodies of young men at the side of the road, bullet-holes in their heads.

Looks like the world has given up on being nice.
You watch as the vehicles come up over the on-ramp and then speed by on the highway. Most of the other people walking away from the bridge have shifted to the other side of the highway, as there is no oncoming traffic.

You rush to the driver-side edge of the road and then kneel down and cradle the shotgun in your shoulder. Your dad taught you how to shoot, but it's tough to hit a moving target.

You watch a couple of vehicles speed by, tracking them as they go, before you get the timing down. The next vehicle that comes around the corner is a large, black SUV, and just as it passes by you pull the trigger while aiming at the driver's side window.

The window shatters and the SUV drifts to a stop at the edge of the road. You rush forward to the SUV and throw open the driver's side door. An older man's body is in the driver seat. His wife is beside him, screaming.
"Get out of the damn vehicle, lady, before I take off your head." She looks at you in shock, but unbuckles her seatbelt and gets out of the vehicle.

She screams at you, "But what am I supposed to do?"

Cindy looks at her as she jumps in the driver seat. "Walk," she says to the lady as she gets in. You jump into the passenger side door of the SUV, pushing the lady out of the way. The girl who you saved, still looking terrified and covered in guts, jumps into the back. As soon as you are inside Cindy lets out a whoop as she hits the gas.

She turns to you. "That was intense!" That's one way to say it.

"What do we do now?" she asks.
"Alright Cindy, pull off the highway here and we will travel along the back-roads instead." She looks at you with surprise in her eyes. "Do you know the backroads of Surrey very well?"

"Not really. But it's better than sitting here and waiting, right?"

She nods.

She pulls off the highway and onto the road. Suddenly you are travelling away from all of the traffic, and you are able to move again.

You look back at the girl, "What's your name?"

She responds, "Danielle... thanks for saving me."

You smile at her, "Of course... always happy to help."

You drive by a Wal-Mart, and the parking lot is packed with vehicles. Cindy looks at you.
"Just keep going and take the next left... have to keep moving," you say to Cindy.

She nods and you drive by the Wal-Mart and then take the next left. You are driving down a back-road in Surrey, with farm houses on the right and the left.

Cindy drives fairly quickly down the path. You should be reasonably far ahead of the horde now. You have made it another 15 minutes or so down the road before you run into a problem. Up ahead the road is filled with a backup of vehicles.

You turn around and backtrack through the backroads. Cindy is starting to become stresses as you begin driving back and forth.

"Relax, don't worry," you tell her. "So long as we are heading East we will be good to go." She nods and she continues driving. You find another road that heads East, and then you are moving again. There are some other cars on the road, and everyone is moving pretty fast. You pass a couple of cars in the ditch, but no one seems to be stopping to help anyone at the moment.

You look back at the girl. "Danielle, do you have an iPod on you?"

She smiles and nods. "Yeah, that's one thing I can help with. Here." She hands you the iPod and you plug it in. The first song that's playing is "Highway to Hell". You look back at her. "Nice taste."

She smiles. You progress another 15 or so minutes east until you hit another intersection heading North where everyone is driving towards the highway. The northbound traffic is backed up, and there doesn't seem to be any way through.
You get out of the SUV and grab the shotgun in your hand. You are still feeling weak, but the adrenaline is keeping you going. Cindy stays in the car and watches as you walk up to the first vehicle in front of you. You point the shotgun at the driver side window. An Asian man looks at you with fear in his eyes.

"Move your fucking car, now, or else I'm going to blow your fucking head off!" you shout at the man. He looks at the cars in front of him and the cars behind him and then pulls out of the lineup and off the road. Immediately the car behind him starts to edge forward.

You fire the shotgun into the air and the vehicle stops. You keep your weapon trained on the car as Cindy passes through the gap, and then you jump back into the SUV and keep going.

"That was impressive," she says to you as you get in. You smile at her, "Shit, not as impressive as killing those zombies earlier."

She laughs in agreement.

You continue driving down the backroads at top speed. Finally you hit 248th Street and the road is fairly clear heading north.
0915

You decide to keep driving along the back roads. After a few minutes, you run into a dead-end in a suburban area. There are not many vehicles left around. It looks like most of the homes have emptied out as people heard the news.

You don't see any zombies around, and the area seems to be clear of pretty much all people.

You look over at Cindy, and then back at Danielle.

"We can either backtrack to 248th and then try and find another way, or we can stop here and get some supplies," you tell the two of them.

Danielle says, "Can we stop so I can at least wash myself off? I am just coated in... stuff."
You decide to stop so that Danielle can take a shower. Cindy looks at you with concern in her eyes. "Are you sure this is the best course of action?"

"Look," you respond, "we have to get food at some point anyways. We might as well do it while we are ahead of the horde." Cindy nods and you pull into the driveway of a large home. You get out of the car and you and Cindy cautiously approach the front door.

"Do we knock?" you ask her. "No, not really required," she responds.

You smash the window with the butt-end of your shotgun and then reach in and open the door. You don't hear anyone inside.

Danielle immediately rushes upstairs to head for a shower. Cindy, being more practical, immediately heads for the kitchen to look for supplies.
You begin to look around the house for something useful. You walk into the garage. Inside there is a car underneath a cover. As you pull the cover back you see an old-school Porsche convertible. You will have to decide at some point whether or not to go with the Porsche or the SUV...

You look around the garage and see a few useful things, including an axe and some bolt-cutters. You grab them and put them by the door of the house. You look around outside and still do not see anyone around. Good.

You head back into the house and head down into the basement to see if there is anything else. The basement has some canned goods, but other than that it looks like the family who lived here had cleaned everything out.

You spend another few minutes looking around and then head back upstairs.

Cindy is carrying stuff out to the entranceway. "It's been a while... should someone go check on Danielle?" she asks you.
You head slowly up the stairs, your shotgun in your hands. You can't be too cautious now. You hear the sound of water running in the bathroom.

You tap on the door. "Danielle?" You don't hear any response. You try the handle to the door and it's unlocked.

You slowly slide the door open. You see Danielle facing away from you through the shower curtain. You slowly approach the shower and then place your hand on the curtain, your other hand on the trigger of the shotgun.

You pull the shower curtain open and she turns around and shrieks. She tries to cover her body as you stand there staring at her.

"What the hell are you doing?" she asks you.
"Just wanted to check you for bites... mind if I examine you?" you respond.

She looks at you coyly. "Alright, go ahead and take a look." She drops her hands to her sides and steps out of the shower. You lean your shotgun up against the bathroom counter and stand in front of her. You begin to run your hands along her body, ostensibly checking for any bites. Her skin is smooth and soft as you slide your hands over her breasts, down her tight stomach, and then over her legs.

"Turn," you say to her. She turns around and places her hands against the bathroom counter and pushes her ass out. You run your hands down her back and then to her ass. Definitely no bites. You let your hands rest on her bare ass, which she wiggles a bit as you touch her.
You slide your hand down her thighs. You feel your cock hardening between your legs as you look down and see the water running down off her ass. You can see her smiling at you in the mirror.

"Umm, alright. You're clean... ummm, we have to go now," you say to her. She turns back and looks at you with astonishment. "What?"

You shrug, grab your shotgun, and close the door behind you. You are breathing heavily, and your arm still burns from the gunshot wound.

You head downstairs, your face flush. Cindy looks at you. "Umm, anything wrong?" You look back at her. "Nothing, just need to get bandaged up again... arm is hurting." Cindy nods and you sit down while she rebandages your arm.

After a few minutes Danielle comes out of the house, now looking clean and fresh. She gives you a weird look, at which point Cindy gives you a weird look, and then the three of you pile back into the car.
You tell Cindy to head north towards the highway. She gets on the road and turns the SUV back north. The wind is blowing in her hair through the shattered driver's side window. The vehicle still smells like blood from when you killed the driver. You watch and smile at Cindy as she drives, and she looks over at you and smiles. You look back and catch Danielle looking at you, her eyes tight. It's a look of frustration.

You turn back towards the road. Need to stick to what's at hand. You pass by a Christmas tree farm and then you are passing over the highway. 248th doesn't have an on-ramp. The highway below is packed with vehicles moving slowly.

You direct Cindy to drive over the overpass and then turn right onto 64th Avenue. She does so, and once again you are driving down the back roads, although this time you are parallel with the highway. It seems some other people had the same idea, and 64th is also packed with vehicles moving east at high speed.

You pull in behind a van and follow them along the road. You are doing about 90km/h, so everyone is moving pretty fast. You see a few vehicles that have been in accidents along the road. When you reach 272nd St the road is clogged heading both North and South back towards the highway. You see a number of the vehicles are empty, and it you see people trudging South towards the highway on foot. Looks like people have given up on transportation. There is no road east, just a farmer's fields and some woods beyond.

You look at Cindy and then back at Danielle.

You direct Cindy to drive off the road, down the embankment, and through the farmer's field. She edges around through the stopped traffic, and then she drives down the embankment and into the farmer's field. It's somewhat muddy, but you get decent traction as you drive through.

You manage to find a gap in the woods and then you are back onto a road heading east. You turn to Cindy, "That was easy, babe. Good job!"

Cindy smiles back at you. You see Danielle leering at the two of you in the rearview mirror.

You are able to continue driving along the road, which still has some traffic on it. You are driving along the road until you come across a massive accident. With everyone driving at such high speed it was bound to happen. There are a number of cars twisted into wreckage in the middle of the road, and you are surrounded on either side by woods.
0950

You tell Cindy to just drive through the wreckage. She looks at you, then looks back at the wreckage and hits the accelerator.

"Hang on," you tell Danielle. She shrieks and grabs onto the back of your seat. Cindy hits the wreckage at a reasonable speed, and you smash into the cars with a crash. You slam forward, and the airbags activate.

Cindy struggles with her airbag and then looks over at you. "Fucking brilliant..." she says with a smirk.

The three of you get out of the car. You tell Danielle that she needs to carry as much of the food as she can. "Why do I need to carry the food?" she asks you.

"Because I'm injured, and Cindy can shoot. Now let's fucking go."

Danielle pouts but grabs the food and you continue walking East.

You come across a farmhouse at the side of the road. It has a garage. You turn to Cindy. "What do you think?"

She looks at you and then at your arm and responds, "I think we need a vehicle."
The three of you walk up to the farmhouse. The front door is ajar. You slowly push the door of the house open with your shotgun barrel and look inside.

It's dark inside, and you have a tough time seeing anything.

You edge forward into the darkness and try to flick on the light switch. Nothing. The shades are closed, and so very little light is filtering into the house.

The three of you slowly shuffle forward, with Danielle grabbing at your arm. You try to shrug her off but she holds on tightly to your injured arm, making it difficult to hold your shotgun.

The three of you are silent. You nod to your right, and you and Cindy turn to the right, heading towards the garage. As you approach the garage door a shape approaches you from the left and you hear someone moan. It's dark and you can't see.
You pull the trigger, feeling the backblast in your arm. Your aim is off because of Danielle, and you catch the figure in the arm. It spins around and then falls to the floor. Then it stands again and begins lurching towards you. You can see it's face now in the dark, and it's obviously a zombie. It lets out a wretched moan, and then Cindy fires again, hitting it in the face and knocking it back and to the ground.

"Let's fucking go!" she shouts. You grab the door to the garage and throw it open. Inside there is a beat up old Cadillac. Cindy rushes to the driver's side door, opens it, and then scrambles, looking for keys.

She looks back at you. "No fucking keys!"
You motion for Cindy to follow you, and you run back into the house together. Danielle follows cautiously. You immediately run over to the body and begin rifling through the pockets for keys. As your head is down, you hear another groan. You look up to see a zombie coming around the corner just a couple of feet from your face. Cindy fires again, and the zombie stumbles back and falls down. You wouldn't have been so lucky without her help...

You are about to thank her, but your hands feel something metal and jagged in the dead zed's pocket... the keys! You grab the keys with a whoop and the three of you rush back out to the garage.

You throw the keys to Cindy, who jumps in the car and turns it on. Danielle jumps in the back and you jump in the front. A zombie in a farmer's shirt stumbles out from the darkened doorway behind you and groans loudly.

Cindy hits the button on the garage door opener and it slowly begins to open.

You roll down your window and point your shotgun at the zombie as it approaches.

The garage door slowly winds up. The zombie is almost upon you when Cindy hits the gas and then you are out and in the sunlight again. Saved you the ammo.

The three of you whoop with joy as Cindy pulls the car back onto the road and you head east.
1020

You keep heading east on the backroads, Cindy driving the car like a maniac as you speed away. Danielle brought her iPod from the last vehicle, but there is nowhere to plug it into the old Caddy.

The roads seem to be clearer now. Anyone who had a vehicle is probably clear by this point. As you drive you see a few people in the fields. You can't really tell if they are zombies or people, but you are sure that some of them are the former, as they begin to run towards your vehicle as you drive by.

You drive east until you hit the end of Mckee Road in the woods. Your last chance to turn back towards the highway, or you can head up towards the river. If you head towards the river there are not a lot of roads left that will take you east.
You turn and head up towards the river. The path is winding, but it seems to be relatively clear of both people and zombies.

You are amazed that the zombies managed to make it so far so fast. They must be able to churn through groups of people pretty fast if they were that far away from where they started in only four hours. That is if you and your sister did see some of the first ones in the morning...

You reach the edge of the river and then turn back to the east. You drive along for a few hundred more yards and the road ends. There is a tugboat tied to the lone pier, and then there are railroad tracks which lead east.
The three of you get out of the car and head over to the boat. You are feeling somewhat faint as you go, and you look down at your blood soaked bandage again. At some point you need to deal with the fact that you got shot this morning...

The three of you get on the boat. "We're so lucky we managed to find this... we would have been dead if this wasn't here," Danielle exclaims. Cindy looks at her. "We're not dead until we're fucking dead, alright?"

Danielle gives Cindy a tough glare back, sniffs, then walks over towards the tugboat. The three of you get on. Cindy puts down her shotgun and then unties you from the edge. You hit the starter on the motor and, miraculously, it starts. Looks like the tug is here to haul barges from the quarry, and so it's maintained in reasonable condition.

You pull away from the dock. You don't see any zombies around. No dramatic escape this time.

The tug may be a river tug, but there is a below-decks area.

You hold your shotgun tightly as you walk down below-decks. You fill the magazine with fresh shells as you walk, using some of the store that was in your pockets. Danielle follows you down.

There are a few bunks below and a small galley, with a stock of food. At least you have something that you can eat now...

You walk into the room with the bunks to check if there is anything else. You hear Danielle close the door behind you.

You turn back to her and she's smiling at you.

"I thought maybe we would get to finish what we started earlier back at the house..." she says with a smile.

You look at her and then look at the bunks.
You throw the shotgun on the bed and smile at her. You have the image of Cindy in the back of your mind as you step forward to Danielle, but it quickly fades as her lips lock onto yours. She kisses you passionately, her tongue thrusting into your mouth and her hands wrapping around your back.

She quickly pushes you down onto the other bed and pushes you back. She lays her body on top of you and begins kissing and licking at your neck. She raises her shirt up and over her head, exposing her small breasts to your eyes. You immediately latch onto her right nipple with your mouth, your tongue flicking back and forth as it hardens.

She moans softly and slides her hand down your chest. She pulls your shirt up and over your head and then slides her bare body up and down yours. She can feel the hard bulge in your pants, and her hands slide down under your pants. You can feel her fingers wrap around your hardening cock and you gasp.
"How about you suck my cock, Danielle?" you say to her with a smile.

She drops to her knees and pulls your legs around to the edge of the bed. In one quick movement she slides your pants off. She grabs at your shorts and then slides them down and off your now hard cock.

She wraps her hand around it and squeezes it, a drop of precum leaking from the tip. She sticks her tongue out and slurps it up and then looks up and into your eyes as she wraps her lips around your cockhead. She slides it into her mouth, stuffing it halfway in.

She begins to bob her head up and down on your cock, making you moan loudly. You begin to thrust up towards her mouth, pushing into her warm mouth with every movement. You can feel her tongue sliding back and forth along the underside of your cock as she sucks on you. You wrap your hands around her hair and she moans softly and looks up at you.

"Time for you to get out of those panties, baby," you tell her. Danielle smiles, stands, and then slides her pants off. She's already not wearing any panties.

She pushes you back onto the bed and then positions her pussy over your hard cock. She slides the head back and forth against her wet hole for a few moments and then slowly descends, sliding your cock into her hole. She moans loudly and then gasps as she hits bottom.

She leans over and kisses you as she begins riding you, your cock thrusting in and out of her hole. The two of you moan as you fuck, her tight pussy clenching at your cock.

Danielle begins moaning loudly, her voice carrying throughout the ship. The engine is loud, but Danielle is louder. She groans as you fuck her, almost wailing as you thrust into her.

Suddenly the door bursts open and Cindy is standing there with her shotgun at the ready. She looks at you, then at Danielle, then back at you, disappointment in her eyes.

"I... I... I thought maybe... that one of you was in trouble..." she says. Her lip trembles as she looks at you, then she turns back and closes the door.
You push Danielle off of you and grab your boxers off the floor.

"What the fuck are you doing?" Danielle asks you, shrieking. You ignore her and pull your boxers on and rush out the door. You rush down the hallway and back onto the deck, where Cindy is standing, piloting the boat. There are tears running down her face.

"Look, Cindy, I'm sorry," you say to her.

"About what?" she responds.

"I didn't mean for this to happen... it just did," you say to her.

"Whatever. It doesn't fucking matter. Go back to her... we're here to survive anyways, right?"
"I need you more than I need her... in more ways than just... I just do," you say to Cindy. You were never very good at speeches.

Cindy looks at you. "I understand... I know how stressful this is for all of us. And I know you're hurt and everything... at the moment I need you too... I could use a fucking hug at the moment," she says to you through tears with a grin.

You smile at her and wrap your arms around her. She pulls you tight into a hug. As you're hugging you hear a sniffle behind you. You look back to see Danielle as she turns back away from you and walks below.

You look at Cindy and the two of you laugh.

You give Cindy a soft kiss on the cheek. "I gotta go get dressed and get my gun," you say to her. She nods and smiles. "Alright. Just don't fall into any pussy on your way..." she says.

You laugh. "Don't worry about it..."

You head back down. The door to the bunk room is closed. You knock. There is no answer. You slowly open the door. Danielle is sitting there on the bed crying.

She stands up, walks over to you, and slaps you in the face. "You fucking tease! What the fuck is wrong with you?"
You slap Danielle in the face. She falls back onto the bunk and looks up at you, shock in her eyes.

"Look, I fucking saved you. I know you're pissed and all, but I don't really care at the moment. I'm focused on surviving here. You can either come along for the ride, or you can get off our fucking boat and swim, alright?"

She looks up at you and nods. You pull on your pants, grab your shirt and your shotgun, and walk out of the room.

You walk up back on deck with Cindy.

"How did she take it?" she asks you.

You smile at her. "I think she knows the way things are now," you say to her with a smile.

"What now?" she asks you.
"We keep heading east, stay away from land, and go as far upriver as we can. We'll re-evaluate tonight," you tell Cindy.

She nods and smiles at you. It's still a beautiful sunny day out as you chug along through the river. There are a few other boaters out, but no one calls to each other. Everyone is just heading East.

You look back towards the city, but your view is of course obscured by the forest. You wonder what happened to your sister, and if your mom could have possibly survived...

You wonder what the hell happened, and where these zombies came from...

It doesn't look like you will be getting any answers today. You feel a deep hole in your heart for your parents... you ran out on them, but you couldn't do a thing about it.

You turn back to Cindy and give her a soft kiss on the cheek. There was at least one positive thing about the day. You look down at your bloody arm. And more than a few negative things as well.

To Be Continued
